In the last year, two have made money, two have lost money, and one is brand-new to the list.
The residents on the Forbes 400, the definitive list of the richest people in the nation, are worth $4.5 trillion in total, tying the 2021 record, according to the business outlet.
The Maryland billionaires on the list are:
- 161. Annette Lerner & family, of Chevy Chase, are new to the list, and are worth $6.5 billion. According to Forbes, in 1952, Lerner, now 93 years old, lent $250 to her 26-year-old husband, Ted, to start a real estate company selling homes for developers. Lerner Enterprises has become the largest real estate enterprise in the Washington, D.C area.
- 244. Mitchell Rales grew up in Bethesda and is the Danaher Corporation founder. He is worth $4.7 billion, and is 67 years old.
- 264. Jim Davis, of Cockeysville, cofounded Allegis Group, the largest staffing firm in the U.S., Forbes says. He's worth $4.4 billion, and is 63.
- 278. Dan Snyder, a college dropout, made his fortune with Snyder Communications, a marketing business. He is the former owner of the Washington Commanders. He's worth $4.1 billion and is 58 years old.
- 326. David Rubenstein is a lawyer from Baltimore. He's one of three billionaire founders of private equity firm Carlyle Group, which is approaching $400 billion in assets under management, Forbes writes. He's worth $3.5 billion, and is 74.
